Frequently
Asked
Questions:

Q: Are you a professional organizer?

A: I am not a professional organizer, as I focus on reflection, cleaning out, and decluttering. However, my work can include helping you organize your items after we have decluttered and cleaned out the space! You will be surprised how easy organization is once there is less clutter! We will always start with cleaning out first, and organizing second.

I like to help you find your personal "organizing style" so we can lightly organize in a way that works for your brain, your family, your lifestyle, and what you will be able to maintain. We will probably talk about this in the consult, but you can also take the organizing style quiz, found here!

Q: What if I’m really embarrassed about my space or how much stuff I have?

A: You are not alone! Many people I work with feel overwhelmed, stuck, or ashamed. My job is to help you feel safe, supported, and respected throughout the process.

Two things to remember to make it easier: First, shame dies in the light! Letting someone safe into a space you feel shame about can help you feel less shame! I won't judge you or your space.

Second, cleanliness and clutter have no moral value! We are all humans, doing our best, and it is okay to ask for help! (Check out my resources page for some books you can read to help with any embarrassment you may feel!)

Q: Do you do all the work for me?
A: No--my work is really focused on collaborative knowledge and action. We work together, with a goal of reflection and skills-transfer. Being open to homework or trying out a system in between sessions will give the best results!

Soft Spaces is not focused on "rescuing" or super urgent timelines. Stuff management is a life long process, and skills are added along the way. This is why all three centers of intelligence are honored in our sessions: thinking, feeling, and doing! Lasting change is made when feelings are safely acknowledged, there is space for logical thinking and reflection, and intentional action is taken. If that sounds intriguing or exciting for you, we will work well together!

Q: Can you tell me how long cleaning out my space will take?
A: As much as I wish I could tell you how long a project will take, it depends on so many factors, including the types of items, what is not visible, decision making rates, distractions, stamina, stories, etc. Each clean out is different and it's hard to know how we work together until we get in there!

Remember: The space did not fill up over night, and it will not clear out overnight, either. Keeping realistic expectations is a huge part of the mental labor of cleaning out.

Our work on your space is collaborative, not a quick fix. It can take some time to reset spaces. I will show up and do my best in every session, and I hope you will do the same!

Q: Where are you located and where do you work?

A: I am located in Wichita, KS and currently serve clients throughout Kansas. Travel within a 30-mile radius of Wichita is included in all service packages.

For clients located beyond 30 miles, a mileage fee of $0.50 per mile (round-trip, calculated beyond the first 30 miles) will apply to each session, and a the initial consultation will be virtual. â€‹

To ensure travel time is sustainable and allows for meaningful progress during our sessions, the following minimum session lengths apply:

  • 35–60 miles from Wichita: 4-hour minimum session

  • Over 60 miles from Wichita: 5–6 hour minimum session (often scheduled as a single intensive or biweekly/monthly visits, depending on need and availability.)

Q: Do you physically help with cleaning out my space or just offer emotional support?

A: I can help with both as needed. I offer hands-on help with sorting, decision-making, cleaning-out, and organizing as needed, while also serving as an encourager, intimate witness, story-listener, and verbal processing buddy! I make room for reflection and grounding in our clean-out sessions so your nervous system feels safe and cared for!

Q: Can I book you to help my parent, friend, or family member?

A: Yes, as long as they are open to the process and we all agree on boundaries and expectations!

Q: Do you post before and after photos?
A: I try to stay away from the concepts of "before and afters"--there is not enough nuance in that language. However, I do like to take a "starting point" picture, so we can be visually motivated by how far we get. I will talk to you before using them on social media (you will never be identified as the client) or in my portfolio.

Q: Do you offer services for situations with compulsive hoarding?

I am unable to offer services for hoarders as a solo service provider, as situations with hoarding often benefit from a team approach.

Q: Do you offer virtual sessions?

A: Yes! Virtual support can work for coaching, accountability check-ins, verbal processing, or helping you break tasks into manageable steps, even if we’re not physically in the same space. We can do Zoom or Facetime.

Q: Do you work in garages, attics, or crawlspaces?

A: No, for safety reasons, I don not service those areas. However, I can help you with referrals for who can help with those spaces!

Q: Are you a licensed therapist?
A: No, I am not. But, my work pairs really well with people who are already working with a therapist! Part of the "wellness wheel" is home and environmental wellness. Cleaning out our spaces and making them supportive, safe, and comfortable is part of holistic wellbeing! If you are not already working with a therapist and would like to, I can give some local suggestions!

Q: What if my home has rodents or pests?

A: Due to health and safety reasons, I am not able to work in spaces with an active infestation. If one is discovered during our work, we will pause the work until the issue has been resolved, and then we can resume our work.
